Senior Director, Resilient Communities, Healthy People & Thriving Communities program

Cai Steger leads teams focused on making cities healthier and more sustainable. Steger serves on the executive team for the American Cities Climate Challenge and on the steering committee for Energy Efficiency for All, a multi-partner initiative that benefits millions of Americans with limited incomes by making multifamily homes healthier and more affordable through energy efficiency. He previously worked as the director of Energy Efficiency for All and also co-directed the Clean Energy Works for Us project, an ongoing initiative to tell the story of our nation’s growing clean energy economy. His other projects have included developing and advocating for policies that drive innovation and investment in clean energy, and leading NRDC’s algae biofuel sustainability work. Prior to joining NRDC in 2008, Steger spent eight years working in strategy, research, and business development in the private sector. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MBA from Columbia Business School. He is based in New York City.
